Sunday Mornings are a Joy here at First Church!
Worship begins at 10:00am in the sanctuary.
Our worship follows a traditional protestant liturgy that includes scripture, prayer, music, and a sermon. We like to include elements and perspectives in worship that are reflective of the diversity of the congregation. No two Sundays are ever exactly the same.
Welcoming You to Our Community
Our children attend the beginning of Worship in the sanctuary. Following the Message for All Ages, children are escorted upstairs to the Wonder Garden for the children’s program. Children are always welcome to remain in the sanctuary if they prefer, and parents are always welcome in the Wonder Garden.
During the “Prayers of the People” you will feel the warmth and support in our community. People share their personal prayers for individuals and families of the church as well as for those in the wider community and around the world. Burdens are halved as they are shared!

First Sunday of Each Month
One Bread, One Body
Communion (eucharist) is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. The communion table is open to all: baptized or not, believer or doubter, you are welcome to take part. We serve grape juice and gluten-free, allergen-free bread so that all can partake safely and be united in the one body of Christ. The children also return to the sanctuary from the Wonder Garden to participate in Communion with their families.

Accessible, Casual, and Open to All
The sanctuary itself is accessible by ramp and includes cushioned pews, “pew cuts” where pews have been removed to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers, and the “Pray Ground” where quiet toys and activities are available for kids. Though humans can be creatures of habit, there are no reserved seats here! Choose the place that’s right for you.
Speaking of what’s right for you, please wear what’s right for you too. We tend to be a more casual bunch. On a Sunday you’ll see folks wearing everything from suits and dresses to jeans and sneakers. Nobody’s going to judge you for what you wear. It is worth knowing that that sanctuary is not air conditioned and can be quite warm in July & August.
Summer Services
South Church, 9 Pleasant Street, Middletown, CT
During the summer months, we participate in joint worship services with South Congregational Church, our sister UCC congregation just down Main street. Summer services also begin at 10:00 am. The Summer worship schedule is announced in June.
